Teeth whitening

Dentist-supervised whitening with custom trays, after a check that it is safe and suitable for your teeth.

Whitening lightens natural tooth colour. It works best on yellow-toned staining from coffee, tea and age, and it does not change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers. We check your teeth and gums first, because whitening on top of decay or gum disease causes problems.

What it includes

  • An examination first, to make sure whitening is suitable
  • Your starting shade recorded with a shade guide
  • Custom-made trays from an impression or scan
  • Professional whitening gel and clear instructions
  • A review visit to record the result

Afterwards

  • Temporary sensitivity is common. Skip a day, or use a sensitive toothpaste in the trays.
  • Results fade slowly. Most people top up with a few nights every year or so, using the same trays.

Questions

Teeth whitening: your questions.

Will whitening work on my crowns or fillings?

No. Whitening only lightens natural tooth. If you have visible fillings or crowns, we may suggest replacing them after whitening so they match.

Is it safe?

Supervised whitening with professional gel is considered safe for healthy teeth and gums. We do not whiten during pregnancy, for children, or where there is untreated decay.

How white will my teeth get?

It varies from person to person, so we do not promise a shade. We record your starting shade so you can see the change.
